Our Sessions & Developing Play Skills

We combine child-centred play therapy techniques with a more directive approach to facilitate children's use of play while fostering their emotional literacy. We believe in the power of play as a natural and effective way for children to learn, communicate, and process their emotions.

Group Sessions

Spark Social offers children a supportive and structured environment where they can address their challenges in real time as they occur. Children are grouped with peers of similar ages and/or concerns.

Children are supported by their therapist throughout the sessions within the group environment. Our group programs enable children to express and record their feelings, perceptions, and imaginations visually, practice social skills and positive peer interactions, and develop calming and relaxation strategies.

Play therapy is linked to:

  • Exploration of self-soothing techniques

  • Encouragement to express feelings

  • Strengthens communication skills

  • Increased confidence and self-esteem

  • Fostering of collaboration

  • Boosts critical thinking

Child-centred play therapy

Many children with autism struggle with advanced pretend play skills, which are linked to language development, social interaction, and emotional regulation. This is why it is crucial to help children develop these play skills.

Our non-directive 1:1 therapy sessions incorporate play-based activities, games, and creative expression to engage children in meaningful peer interactions and promote social, emotional, and cognitive development.

Pretend play is linked to:

  • Abstract thought

  • Language development

  • Social competence with peers

  • Emotion regulation

All sessions are therapeutic and claimable under CB15 daily activities.
